This is a wonderful essay, drawing from personal experience and close observation to capture the central theme in a finely woven web of imagery. There are so many things here to ponder. Somebody remarked about Kris Kristofferson: "He didn't make up any new words, they were all there in the dictionary, he just put them together in ways nobody else did." This piece rises to that level, and I wish it could find a wide, wide audience of readers.
